The machine manufacturers set the tone with the first press conference on the first day of the Hanover Fair.

Speaking:

  • VDMA President Carl Martin Welcker
  • VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann
  • VDMA Chief Economist Dr. Ralph Wiechers

The conference enables the exchange and networking with national and international organizations and working groups within the framework of the OPC UA Companion Specification Standardization. This event provides an insight into the future of interoperable, manufacturer-independent information exchange. The VDMA and the OPC Foundation Keynotes will give an introduction to the topics Industry 4.0 and OPC UA. Afterwards the participants have the opportunity to discuss and network with different working groups within the OPC UA CS standardization. Each working group presents its vision and mission at so-called theme tables.

3D printing is revolutionizing the world of industrial manufacturing. Among its many uses are on-the-fly prototyping for product engineering and design, the creation of high-performance manufacturing tools, or resource-friendly ways of achieving continuous operations. By getting the full picture on additive product engineering and manufacturing, you can unlock utterly new potential for your business. Real-world applications of additive manufacturing will be presented at the Additive Manufacturing Symposium, featuring leading makers of AM equipment as well as successful users of additively manufactured components.

For many years, VDMA has been investigating the damage caused by product piracy in the mechanical and plant engineering industry and the effects this has on companies.

The Center for Smart Production Design (SmaP), the Plastics Innovation Center 4.0 (PIC 4.0) and the application-oriented Industrial-IoT platform for the Center for Applied Data Science (CfADS) are three winners of the "Forschungsinfrastrukturen NRW" competition. The aim of the competition is to strengthen and promote the innovative power of the economy. Above all, SMEs that find it more difficult to deal with future-oriented topics such as "digitization" in depth in their operative business should benefit from the results of the competition and the improved research infrastructure.

  • At the SmaP, intelligent tools and methods are being researched by five chairs of the University of Siegen. The three main areas of focus will be machines, tools and human behaviour.
  • The PIC 4.0 represents a holistic approach to industry 4.0 research in plastics processing. In the project, a fully networked pilot plant will be established in which the plastics industry can test Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • The CfADS researches topics related to the digitization of industrial production systems. The methods and algorithms developed here enable companies to create unique selling propositions from the raw material "data". A new level is reached by the Smart Service Lab, so that the entire research infrastructure of CfADS is being expanded into an Industrial-IoT-and-Service-Platform.

The free event on the stage of the NRW joint stand in Hall 7 Stand A10 will take place from 11.00 to 12.00 hrs and will present selected projects from the field of smart production. Visitors and interested parties are cordially invited to exchange ideas at the event and at the NRW joint stand.

Interested participants will receive a free trade visitor ticket for the Hannover Messe.

In order to ensure their long-term success, companies must use industry 4.0 technologies. Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the important technologies for the implementation of the future vision Industry 4.0. Both the technology and its tools are constantly being developed.
Falling prices for computing power and storage space are driving big data and cloud technologies, which in turn are driving AI. Today, AI offers a wide range of possible applications. Its potential benefits in mechanical and plant engineering can lie both in the product properties (e.g. through expert systems) and in the optimization of processes (e.g. proposal preparation, production planning).

In the series of lectures we will show you how dynamic and non-linearly programmed systems and genetic algorithms achieve useful results (Explainable AI). In addition, we will present various applications of AI in mechanical engineering such as production control, predictive maintenance or production optimization.

The free event on the stage of the NRW joint stand in Hall 7 Stand A10 will take place from 12.00 to 13.45 hrs and will present selected practical examples of artificial intelligence. Visitors and interested parties are cordially invited to exchange ideas at the event and at the NRW joint stand. After the series of lectures, participants are invited to exchange their experiences with AI projects over a lunchtime snack.

Interested participants will receive a free trade visitor ticket for the Hannover Messe.

More powerful processors, improved graphics cards, sensors and image processing systems as well as progressive software development are driving the increased use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications in industry.

Virtual Reality enables the user to experience and interact with a 3D world by means of tools such as VR data glasses. VR can be used, for example, for education and training purposes, product and production presentations or even in training for service employees.

With Augmented Reality the user is in the real world and gets additional information displayed. A wide range of tools are used for this purpose, from smartphones to tablets, head-up displays, holography systems and AR glasses. AR is used, for example, when expanding existing plants or entire production halls.

In the course of the event, we will address the following question: Which industrial applications of Augmented and Virtual Reality already exist? How do the possibilities of these technologies differ? ISAP will provide an insight into the possibilities and potential of Mixed Reality technologies, CAD Schroer will present various industrial applications, and Oculavis will show how AR support can help reduce travel costs and increase productivity.

The free event on the stage of the NRW joint stand in Hall 7 Stand A10 will take place from 14.00 to 15.00 hrs and will present selected application examples for Augmented and Virtual Reality. Visitors and interested parties are cordially invited to exchange ideas at an afternoon tea at the joint NRW stand.

Interested participants will receive a free trade visitor ticket for the Hannover Messe.

Cybersecurity is an essential and cross-sectoral topic not only for the "Internet of Things" but also for Industrie 4.0. The networking that accompanies the digitalization of industry enables greater productivity, greater resource efficiency and new business areas. At the same time, new risks arise from an increasing number of players, interfaces, data exchange and cyber attacks.

The mechanical engineering industry is already confronted with cybersecurity risks when customers require remote access to machines or systems, e.g. when the manufacturer's support is required for troubleshooting or maintenance activities.

The series of lectures deals with different facets of cybersecurity - starting with the security of user accounts up to globally networked machines and plants. In addition, we also deal with the clarification of a cyber attack that has occurred, i.e. the topic of IT forensics. The process of an IT forensic analysis comprises the steps of identification, data backup, analysis, documentation and processing.

Ultimately, the successful implementation of cybersecurity is spread over many industrial shoulders. Component manufacturers as well as integrators and operators are challenged. In the company, it is important to sensitize the own employees to the topic.

The free event on the stage of the NRW joint stand in Hall 7 Stand A10 will take place from 12.00 to 13.00 hrs and will present selected examples of applications in dealing with cyber risks. Visitors and interested parties are cordially invited to exchange ideas at a fingerfood lunch at the NRW joint stand.

Interested participants will be provided with a free trade visitor ticket.

Manufacturing Execution Systems bring the necessary transparency and flexibility to production, enabling companies to compete globally. At the 12th International MES Conference at HANNOVER MESSE 2020, innovators and their digital projects will highlighted under the motto of “MES and IIoT – Together on the Road to the Digital Enterprise”. Producers will also report on how they are achieving the maximum benefits from the interplay of MES and IIoT. In a panel discussion, representatives from industry, academia and the IT community will discuss how algorithms and artificial intelligence are poised to revolutionize state-of-the-art MES. Will AI and related advances soon take over the production control process? And if so, will people need to be in the factory at all? Attendees at the 12th International MES Conference will find out the answers to these and other questions.

Focus Topic: Digital Ecosystems
